The Creative Foraging Systems Box Feeder toy is great for feeding your birds' dry food and treats. Fill with bird safe foraging substrate to make the food harder to get to. Your bird will need to chew open the cardboard box to access the rewards inside! This starter pack comes with 10 refill boxes which come with a ‘honeycomb divider’ to separate the box into 8 compartments, prolonging the foraging enjoyment! Refill packs of 15 boxes can be purchased separately in my store. This toy is the smaller of the 2 sizes (shown together in last images) and is made from tough polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. It comes in clear, as pictured and attaches to the side of the cage using a polycarbonate screw/washer that fits most cage and aviary bars. Be careful not to cross thread these when tightening them as the screw pieces will snap!
This is a high quality, sturdy foraging design that is great for all breeds of birds. Fill it with your bird's fruits and vegetables as well as foot toys, blocks of wood, pinecones and banksia pods.
Your bird will need to reach through the gaps in the bars to access their rewards. You could make this harder by wrapping everything inside the toy with paper for them to chew open or lining the baffle cage with cardboard once your parrot has mastered it. This toy is 100% stainless steel and measures 10 x 10cm across, while hanging just over 20cm tall from a chain with quick link attachment. It has a 1.8cm space between each of the bars.
An acrylic foraging toy for dry food treats and foot toys that can be used by inexperienced and practiced foragers. To use this toy your small or medium parrot needs to pull on each of the 2 shelves to release their larger treat or foot toy to the opening at the bottom. The Small Birdy Plunk hangs from a length of nickel plated chain with a pear clip at the top. A Mini Feather Weight foraging foot toy is pictured in use and can be purchased separately for small seeds to go inside. Or you can use a nut or smaller treat wrapped in paper as the treat or a 2cm Vine Ball (foraging foot toy) with food inside. This is a fun little puzzle toy for your parrot to explore and find treats in.
To use this foraging toy, your bird needs to turn the inner shaft of the toy using the forked handle at the front. The barrel can lock in either direction and only by turning the shaft to the central position, will it slide out to reveal the treat opening. This toy is made from tough, polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. The barrel itself is 4 x 7cm when closed and hangs from a chain with small quick link, totaling 28cm long.
This is well designed, different foraging toy, that suits the medium to large birds well. Hide treats, beads and normal diet/pellets within the cones of this toy to entice your parrot. The Mini Feather Weight Foot Toys and 2cm Vine Balls fit in this toy also. Your bird will need to move the cones around the circle, up to the top, where an opening allows the reward to slide out of the cone, into the retrieval tray in the middle of the circle. Extra/replacement cones are also available so you can add more as your bird becomes more experienced. This toy is made from tough, clear and blue polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks.Measures 22 x 25cm. Attaches to cage with the 2 large, polycarbonate washer/screws that fits onto most cage and aviary bars. For Indian Ringnecks and smaller parrots, the smaller Mastermind Heart is more appropriately sized.
There is a reason this original foraging wheel from Caitec is still around, it is great for feeding your birds' dry food and treats and can be used by many breeds, including small parrots. Fill with a mix of normal food or treats and a safe foraging substrate, to make the treats harder to get to. Your bird will need to turn the face of the wheel using the handle or the openings. This changes the position of the 2 openings and allows access to the 5 different compartments within the wheel. You can add chewable items to the mix for your bird to get their beak into. Mini and small Feather Weight Foot Toys fit well inside the compartments, as well as 2cm Vine Balls and small Yucca Pieces.
This toy is made from tough polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. It attaches to the side of the cage using the typical Creative Foraging Systems washer/screw provided which fits most cage and aviary bars.
The wheel is about 15cm in diameter and 3cm deep and best suits small and medium parrots and is not very suitable for Alexandrines due to their beak size. Check out the Generation II wheels for larger birds.
This wooden flower pot can hold small treats or beads for the extra clever foragers out there. A stiff vegetable tanned leather flower is held in place over the top of the flower pot by a stainless steel wing nut wound onto a stainless steel bolt. Your bird must undo the wing nut to remove the vegetable tanned leather flower and get inside to the treat! We recommend using dry food only for this foraging toy. Measures 6cm long and 4.5cm wide and is suitable for medium to large parrots, though smaller breeds could use this toy if it were mounted on the cage bars or placed in a bowl.
This is a very smart and well designed foraging toy for experienced foragers and is suitable for most small breeds of birds, as well as medium ones.Fill the top compartment with pellets/seeds/pieces of nut treats and some foraging substrate. Your bird will need to turn both the wheel at the top and then the wheel at the bottom of the toy. This spins the paddles, moving the food from level to level until it falls into the tray below for your bird to retrieve. The windmill is made from tough polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. *Note - the toy does have a small (stainless steel) wing nut that holds the lid of this toy on. This wingnut does spin with the bottom wheel so it would be tricky for most birds to unscrew without help. If this is an issue for your bird, avoid this toy or outsmart them by placing it only a cm from the ceiling of the cage, so they can turn the wheel but not access the screw! Measures roughly 23cm tall an 9cm in diameter. Screws onto the side of the cage with 2 of the polycarbonate washer/screws and fits most cage and aviary bars.
This is a very popular foraging toy that is great for the smaller breeds of birds. It is easy to teach your bird to use and can also be made more difficult. Fill it with your bird's favourite treats, and their normal diet, mixed with bird safe foraging substrate. You can use Mini Feather Weight Foot toys, vine balls and other items in this toy as well as treats. The photos show the toy with these items in use. It comes brand new and empty. Your bird will need to lift the light, plastic lid and reach their head into the cup to access their reward. The cups and lids move around freely on a long length of nickel plated chain. While your bird is learning to use the toy, you can sticky tape the lids open or partially open to make it easier for them. Then change to no tape, with the lids sitting loosely once your parrot knows that they can get the food with the lid lifted. You can even start sticky taping the lids closed once your parrot is really good at this toy! They will need to chew through the tape to open the lid! (avian vet recommended/safe). Measures 43cm long (including pear clip and bell) and 6.5cm wide.
The Creative Foraging Systems Hanging Box Feeder toy is great for feeding your birds' dry food and treats. Fill with bird safe foraging substrate to make the food harder to get to and more time consuming for your bird. Your can introduce this to your bird at an easy level, without any covering at first. Once they know there's food in the toy, you can start covering it with the sleeves provided for them to work more for their food. Your clever parrot will need to chew open the cardboard box to access the rewards inside! The cardboard sleeves come with various perforated openings that you can remove as 'windows' to the food inside, another great way to adjust the difficulty as your bird learns. The Hanging Box Feeder comes with 2 sleeves in the pack already and refill packs of 5 sleeves can be purchased separately. This toy is made from clear polycarbonate and hangs on a short chain with pear clip to attach it to your birds' cage.
These Feather Weight foot toys are so versatile! You can use them for foraging as you can hide food in the ridges of each 'bobble' for your bird to dig out. They can be given as a foot toy and the mini ones can be put inside many other foraging toys or hidden around the cage. The rings can be used as toy parts, hung from other toys, given as a foot toy or placed around your birds' perches. Because they are made as kids toys, with non-toxic plastic, they are as safe as possible for your bird to chew. I use these daily for my own birds, hiding seeds and small pellets in the ridges and using them through the foraging toys in their cages. Take a look at all the videos in the tab below of the various foot toys in use. Please note the videos also show the 'small and medium' ones in use. These sizes are currently unavailable, but the mini (single ball) and rings (5 balls in a loop) are available. Each ball is about 2cm in diameter and are available in blue, green, yellow, orange, pink, purple and red as pictured. A random selection of colours will be chosen for you unless otherwise requested.
