The Smarty Stick is a small hanging foraging toy made out of hard timber. Each of the 6 coloured dots is removeable and has a ‘well’ underneath that you can hide small treats in for your bird to retrieve.
Put small pieces of nuts, flavoured pellets or a sunflower seed under the dot and teach your parrot to remove the dot to find the reward. The Smarty stick is 2.5cm thick and 10cm long but hangs nearly 20cm long from stainless steel chain and ‘o’ ring at the top. Hanging links can be purchased separately if required.
This toy is also available in my store in foot toy ring version. It is called the ‘Smarty Ring’.
The dots can be quite well hammered in at first, please let me know if you’d like my assistance removing them for the first time or if your parrot would prefer to dig them out themselves!
A standard sized, small pear clip that is 100% stainless steel, including the clasp. It is the safest metal for use with our parrots and the design is safe with any small parrots that don’t un-do the clasps. Always use quick links, tightened with pliers, for large parrots or those that can un-do these clips.
Many toys come with links attached in the nickel plated variety. You can replace them with stainless steel links. Also check your purchases as certain toys and ranges like Planet Pleasures and my own natural toys don’t come with links so you can choose your own.

The large quick link is 100% stainless steel, including the clasp which is hexagonal in shape so can be easily tightened with pliers for those parrots that like to un-do clips. Always use quick links, tightened with pliers, for large or destructive parrots.

There is a reason this original foraging wheel from Caitec is still around, it is great for feeding your birds’ dry food and treats and can be used by many breeds, including small parrots.
Fill with a mix of normal food or treats and a safe foraging substrate, to make the treats harder to get to. Your bird will need to turn the face of the wheel using the handle or the openings. This changes the position of the 2 openings and allows access to the 5 different compartments within the wheel. You can add chewable items to the mix for your bird to get their beak into. Mini and small Feather Weight Foot Toys fit well inside the compartments, as well as 2cm Vine Balls and small Yucca Pieces.
This toy is made from tough polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. It attaches to the side of the cage using the typical Creative Foraging Systems washer/screw provided which fits most cage and aviary bars.
The wheel is about 15cm in diameter and 3cm deep and best suits small and medium parrots and is not very suitable for Alexandrines due to their beak size. Check out the Generation II wheels for larger birds.
This is a very popular foraging toy that is great for the smaller breeds of birds. It is easy to teach your bird to use and can also be made more difficult. Fill it with your bird’s favourite treats, and their normal diet, mixed with bird safe foraging substrate. You can use Mini Feather Weight Foot toys, vine balls and other items in this toy as well as treats. The photos show the toy with these items in use. It comes brand new and empty.
Your bird will need to lift the light, plastic lid and reach their head into the cup to access their reward. The cups and lids move around freely on a long length of nickel plated chain. While your bird is learning to use the toy, you can sticky tape the lids open or partially open to make it easier for them. Then change to no tape, with the lids sitting loosely once your parrot knows that they can get the food with the lid lifted. You can even start sticky taping the lids closed once your parrot is really good at this toy! They will need to chew through the tape to open the lid! (avian vet recommended/safe).
Measures 43cm long (including pear clip and bell) and 6.5cm wide.
This great little climbing net is ideal for those smaller feet and beaks! Designed with Budgies, Lovebirds & Cockatiels in mind, the diameter of the rope pieces is 3-4mm. It is made from hemp which is a natural fibre that is a lot safer for your bird to nibble on than cotton or other ropes. It is actually small enough to fit reasonably within your birds cage, or can be set up as part of a play area out of the cage.
The net measures 40cm x 40cm and doesn’t come with hanging links. You can purchase these separately or hang around existing perches if you get creative.
This is a high quality, sturdy foraging design that is great for all breeds of birds. Fill it with your bird’s fruits and vegetables as well as foot toys, blocks of wood, pinecones and banksia pods.
Your bird will need to reach through the gaps in the bars to access their rewards. You could make this harder by wrapping everything inside the toy with paper for them to chew open or lining the baffle cage with cardboard once your parrot has mastered it.
This toy is 100% stainless steel and measures 10 x 10cm across, while hanging just over 20cm tall from a chain with quick link attachment. It has a 1.8cm space between each of the bars.
This is a cute little foraging toy that is great for the smaller breeds of birds. Fill it with your bird’s favourite treats, and their normal diet.
Your bird will need to spin the maze by holding onto the opening and moving it around. The wheel spins freely and your bird can watch their food move from shelf to shelf until it reaches the opening. By adding bird safe foraging substrate, you can increase the difficulty of this maze once your bird is experienced at it. The maze fits together as 2 pieces and is held firmly by the bolt and washers attaching it, however it can be taken apart for easy cleaning.
This toy is made from tough, clear and coloured acrylic and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. It is the small version of this toy, a large is also available and both are pictured in the last image. The small measures 10cm in diameter and roughly 3cm thick/deep. Screws onto the side of the cage with the nut and bolt set, as well as 2 washers. Fits all cage/aviary bars.
One for the noise lovers! A particular favourite of Lorikeets, Caiques, Conures and Quakers that love to shake, rattle and attack the bells.
This is a very jingly, rattly toy made by Super Bird, with 3 of their very bird safe bell balls, it hangs from a nickel plated chain and pear clip at the top and comes with either a yellow or pink base/body. Measures a total of 35cm tall and 16cm in diameter.

One of the most popular of the original “Kirsty’s Natural Bird Toys”, this toy is handmade and has a natural branch perch that is 20-25cm wide, with lots of bark for your parrots’ feet and nails. Lining the side is a seasonal mix of Australian Gumnuts, Casuarina and Liquid Amber pods plus native branch pieces, balsa bricks, vine balls/rings, birdy bagels, yucca pieces, woven leaf shredding strips and finger trap pieces, threaded onto stainless steel wire. Even the occasional small Pinecone or Banksia cone is added to one of these swings. It hangs from a short length of stainless steel chain and small ‘O’ ring to attach a hanging link to.
A small swing can be suitable for a single Cockatiel but medium is recommended for individual Conures, Quakers, etc. For larger breeds, use the large sized swing.
These natural toys are handmade and the seed pods are seasonally available. Therefore, every toy does differ and contains a mix of dry/open and green/closed seed pods. Please contact me before purchase if you have specific wishes or want to check availability of certain seed pods.
