This is the absolute safest type of toy hanging link available here. The large quick link is 100% stainless steel, including the clasp which is hexagonal in shape so can be easily tightened with pliers for those parrots that like to un-do clips. Always use quick links, tightened with pliers, for large or destructive parrots.
Many toys come with the smaller pear clips attached. You can replace them with stainless steel quick links. Also check your purchases as certain toys and ranges like Planet Pleasures and my own natural toys don’t come with links so you can choose your own.
The Quick Links measure 4cm long, 1.7cm wide and the opening is 6mm. Stainless steel grade 316.
A standard sized, small pear clip that is 100% stainless steel, including the clasp. It is the safest metal for use with our parrots and the design is safe with any small parrots that don’t un-do the clasps. Always use quick links, tightened with pliers, for large parrots or those that can un-do these clips.
Many toys come with links attached in the nickel plated variety. You can replace them with stainless steel links. Also check your purchases as certain toys and ranges like Planet Pleasures and my own natural toys don’t come with links so you can choose your own.
This super fun bell ball foot toy/toy part is made by Super Bird. It is a particularly safe design, made with parrots in mind. Your bird will love the shrill jingle of this bell ball!
Please be aware that the more destructive birds may break the plastic with their beaks. The good news is that the interior bell is not the unsafe kind (cheap metal with tapering off openings to catch beaks and toes), it is made from plastic and has a consistent opening size/shape which is much safer if your parrot were to play with this part.
The ball measures 5cm in diameter and can be used by most breeds of bird.
Small plastic wiffle balls in a variety of colours. These balls are empty and can be used as foot toys or toy parts for your small to medium parrot. By using paper straws with food inside, stuffed into the openings of this wiffle ball, you can create an enriching toy for your bird.
Straw Beads are small plastic tubes that can be used in toy making. They come in red, blue, green, orange and yellow.
Use Straw Beads to safely close the opening in ‘C’ links (as pictured). This is important to keep your bird safe from getting their beak or other parts caught in the opening. C links not included and can be purchased separately.
A selection of 5 various pieces of Yucca. Yucca is a type of plant and these pieces of dried plant stalk are bird safe, soft and chewable. Parrots, small and large love munching on the soft, fibrous natural material. It’s great to give as a foot toy or thread onto other toys. You can poke a hole with skewer, wire or scissors and hang it in your birds’ cage. By making small holes in the Yucca and pushing dry food treats into it, you can make this a foraging foot toy also.
As a natural item, the pieces do vary and a fair selection will be chosen for you.
The last photo is an example of how food can be stuck in the yucca. This is a different size/style of Yucca to the item – see “5 Yucca Slices” for this style of Yucca piece.
These are super cute little maraca rattles that are great as a foot toy for an inquisitive parrot. There are small beads inside that clatter and rattle around making a pleasing sound for your bird. They can also be threaded onto wire or a very small ‘O’ ring through the roughly 2mm hole in the tip of the handle and used as a toy part.
Each maraca measures about 7cm long and 2.5cm in diameter and the widest point. Colours are as displayed (purple, blue, pink, green and yellow) and a random selection will be chosen for you.
The plastic isn’t sturdy enough to withstand the chewing of larger parrots but they make good foot toys with supervision and are great additions to the cage for non-destructive birds.
These colourful little tea cups are too cute to pass by!
With different faces on each cup and a handle that can be held my many breeds of birds, they make a great foot toy. Train your bird to hold it with their foot while they ‘drink’ out of the cup for a reward. You can use them as a toy part or just hang the cups in your birds cage. Mini Feather Weight Foot Toys fit well within the cup, as do 2cm Vine Balls and many pellets and smaller nuts. There is a video in the tab below showing the cup in use.
There is a gap in the handle, big enough for stainless steel ‘o’ rings and small rope to pass through to hang the cup or use it as a toy part.
