JW Tip & Treat$12.30
A great cage-mounted foraging toy for our smaller birds, this simple yet enjoyable toy is perfect for Budgies, Lovebirds and Cockatiels. Watch as your bird learns to tip the pod to retrieve the reward from the tray below.
Be sure to check out the video tab on this page to see this toy in use!
Please note that there is a mirror that makes up the back wall of this toy. Mirrors have been found to be popular with these breeds of bird in particular, so it may help encourage your bird to this toy while they’re learning. Once they have learned to use the foraging part of this toy, you may wish to cover the mirror with some paper to avoid your bird becoming obsessed with their reflection. I have done this with my own birds’ toy and found it successful.
Cane Basket Forager$15.50 – $16.25
The new Cane Basket Forager is a toy handmade by me! An easy toy to introduce to your small parrot who is beginning to forage. Partially fill the basket with some bird-safe foraging substrate and sprinkle some pellets, millet or other treat on top then watch your bird swinging in the basket while retrieving their goodies. You can also put foraging surprises in the large 8cm vine ball at the top.
The toy measures 20cm wide and 25cm tall. It is fantastic for Budgies through to Indian Ringnecks. It hangs from 3mm plastic chain and a stainless steel wire and comes with a hanging link, though you can choose if you’d like a nickel plated or stainless steel one. All plastic ‘C’ links are closed off with a straw bead for safety. This toy isn’t suitable for large parrots or those who particularly like to chew through plastic.
Medium Food Pyramid$26.00
This is well designed, foraging toy made by the Australian company ‘My Parrot Shop’. You can hide treats, beads and normal diet/pellets within the many ‘wells’ of this toy which are placed on each level of the pyramid (except for the top block).
Your bird will need to spin the levels to access the food wells and get their reward. It is made with 100% stainless steel hardware, including the pear clip/small quick link and uses safe, vegetable dyed timber. Each pyramid is slightly different and colours vary.
The medium measures 14 x 14cm wide and 18cm tall. Small and large are also available.
Small Acrylic Maze$31.00
This is a cute little foraging toy that is great for the smaller breeds of birds. Fill it with your bird’s favourite treats, and their normal diet.
Your bird will need to spin the maze by holding onto the opening and moving it around. The wheel spins freely and your bird can watch their food move from shelf to shelf until it reaches the opening. By adding bird safe foraging substrate, you can increase the difficulty of this maze once your bird is experienced at it. The maze fits together as 2 pieces and is held firmly by the bolt and washers attaching it, however it can be taken apart for easy cleaning.
This toy is made from tough, clear and coloured acrylic and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. It is the small version of this toy, a large is also available and both are pictured in the last image. The small measures 10cm in diameter and roughly 3cm thick/deep. Screws onto the side of the cage with the nut and bolt set, as well as 2 washers. Fits all cage/aviary bars.
Medium Pipe Dream$20.00 – $21.00
The Pipe Dream is a foraging toy of Kirsty’s own making. They are made in 3 different sizes to suit a range of parrots and the medium is best suited to Cockatiels to Indian Ringnecks.
Your parrot just needs to lift the lid out of the way and reach their beak inside the pipe to retrieve their reward. You can mix seed/pellets with bird safe foraging substrate inside the toy or use larger items like nuts, beads or chunks of vegetables wrapped in paper. When first introducing this toy, you can use a piece of sticky tape to hold one lid open for your bird to learn where to find the food. After they have used it this way for a few days, you can remove the tape and let them pick the lid up themselves.
The stainless steel chain running through the toy, helps to hold the lids a little more securely to add some difficulty. Pacifiers adorn the ends of the chain.
The Pipe dream is made with bird safe, tough pvc and all hardware is stainless steel. There are acrylic beads and cardboard birdy bagels for your bird to play with too. At the top, there is an ‘o’ ring to attach your own hanging link to. There are 2 options for the type of lid you would like on this toy, for Cockatiels, small Conures, Quakers & most Lorikeets the plastic lid is suitable (first 2 images). For birds that like to destroy plastic, like larger Conures, Caiques, Indian Ringnecks then the tougher acrylic lid is best (last 2 images). The acrylic discs are all clear, coloured ones are not currently available.
For Budgies and Lovebirds, there is a small toy available and for Alexandrines to Macaws, the Large Pipe Dream is available and comes only with acrylic lids.
Buffet Ball (3″)$13.50
This toy is perfectly designed for feeding your bird fruits and vegetables. You could also fill with shredded paper, large pellets/nuts and parcels.
Your bird just needs to reach their beak into the slots/openings in this toy to pull out their prize! Wrapping your birds’ chunks of fruit and vegetables will prolong the enjoyment of this toy as your bird chews through the paper to get to their reward. Believe it or not, this toy can actually help to reduce mess and wastage. Every beak-full of food your bird gets out, he has to purposely chew/work for so more often than not, he’s not going to throw it all over your walls!
This toy is made from tough polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. This is a loose, individual toy. It can be hung from a skewer (various options shown below), hung by a large hanging loop or used as a foot toy for a very large parrot or placed in a foraging bowl.
The Buffet Ball is 9cm in diameter and each of the 12 slots (6 per half) is about 4cm long and 8-12mm wide. This is a versatile toy that suits most parrots.
Also known as the 3″ Party Ball. The 5″ Party Ball is shown in the last image and also available in my store.
Hanging Box Feeder$17.00
The Creative Foraging Systems Hanging Box Feeder toy is great for feeding your birds’ dry food and treats. Fill with bird safe foraging substrate to make the food harder to get to and more time consuming for your bird.
Your can introduce this to your bird at an easy level, without any covering at first. Once they know there’s food in the toy, you can start covering it with the sleeves provided for them to work more for their food. Your clever parrot will need to chew open the cardboard box to access the rewards inside! The cardboard sleeves come with various perforated openings that you can remove as ‘windows’ to the food inside, another great way to adjust the difficulty as your bird learns. The Hanging Box Feeder comes with 2 sleeves in the pack already and refill packs of 5 sleeves can be purchased separately.
This toy is made from clear polycarbonate and hangs on a short chain with pear clip to attach it to your birds’ cage.
Hide-a-Treat Forager (2 Sizes)$18.80 – $28.90
A simple foraging toy for parrots, newly released from ‘Sweet Feet & Beak’ in a transparent design. Your bird will see the food inside the 3 separate compartments inside and needs to lift the lid to access the goodies.
Available in 2 sizes to suit a wide variety of breeds. I suggest the small for Conures to Indian Ringnecks and the large for Alexandrines to Macaws. It comes in 3 colours: purple, green and blue. A colour will be chosen at random, though you are welcome to request a specific colour in order notes.
Large Baffle Cage$45.00
This is a high quality, sturdy foraging design that is great for all breeds of birds. Fill it with your bird’s fruits and vegetables as well as foot toys, blocks of wood, pinecones and banksia pods.
Your bird will need to reach through the gaps in the bars to access their rewards. You could make this harder by wrapping everything inside the toy with paper for them to chew open or lining the baffle cage with cardboard once your parrot has mastered it.
This toy is 100% stainless steel and measures 15 x 15cm across, while hanging a total of 40cm tall from a chain with quick link attachment. The bars are 2cm apart.
Giant Foraging Wheel (Second Generation)
This is a sturdy foraging toy designed for large and extra large birds. Your parrot will need to turn the wheel to access five separate food compartments which you can fill with foot toys, beads, nuts, 'foraging parcels' and other treats. You can fit foraging foot toys, such as the Flower Pot, Smarty Ring and up to medium Feather Weights within the compartments of this wheel. Using 4cm Vine Balls and Yucca Pieces is also a great foraging idea.
Measures roughly 20cm in diameter and 5cm thick/deep. It screws onto cage at 2 points and fits most cage and aviary bars.
For medium parrots, I suggest the smaller, 'Extra-Large' version of this wheel. They are all made from tough polycarbonate and are dishwasher safe.
Extra Large Foraging Wheel (Second Generation)$50.50
This is a sturdy foraging toy designed for medium to large birds. Your parrot will need to turn the wheel to access five separate food compartments which you can fill with foot toys, beads, nuts, ‘foraging parcels’ and other treats. 2cm Vine Balls, Mini and Small Feather Weight foot toys also fit inside the compartments of this toy.
Measures 16cm in diameter and 4cm thick/deep. It screws onto cage at 2 points and fits most cage and aviary bars.
For larger parrots, I suggest the ‘Giant’ version of this wheel. They are all made from tough polycarbonate and are dishwasher safe.
Foraging Windmill/Paddle Wheel
This is a very smart and well designed foraging toy for experienced foragers and is suitable for most small breeds of birds, as well as medium ones.
Fill the top compartment with pellets/seeds/pieces of nut treats and some foraging substrate. Your bird will need to turn both the wheel at the top and then the wheel at the bottom of the toy. This spins the paddles, moving the food from level to level until it falls into the tray below for your bird to retrieve.
The windmill is made from tough polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. *Note – the toy does have a small (stainless steel) wing nut that holds the lid of this toy on. This wingnut does spin with the bottom wheel so it would be tricky for most birds to unscrew without help. If this is an issue for your bird, avoid this toy or outsmart them by placing it only a cm from the ceiling of the cage, so they can turn the wheel but not access the screw!
Measures roughly 23cm tall an 9cm in diameter. Screws onto the side of the cage with 2 of the polycarbonate washer/screws and fits most cage and aviary bars.
Foraging Wheel (First Generation)
There is a reason this original foraging wheel from Caitec is still around, it is great for feeding your birds’ dry food and treats and can be used by many breeds, including small parrots.
Fill with a mix of normal food or treats and a safe foraging substrate, to make the treats harder to get to. Your bird will need to turn the face of the wheel using the handle or the openings. This changes the position of the 2 openings and allows access to the 5 different compartments within the wheel. You can add chewable items to the mix for your bird to get their beak into. Mini and small Feather Weight Foot Toys fit well inside the compartments, as well as 2cm Vine Balls and small Yucca Pieces.
This toy is made from tough polycarbonate and will hold up against even the tougher beaks. It attaches to the side of the cage using the typical Creative Foraging Systems washer/screw provided which fits most cage and aviary bars.
The wheel is about 15cm in diameter and 3cm deep and best suits small and medium parrots and is not very suitable for Alexandrines due to their beak size. Check out the Generation II wheels for larger birds.
Large Acrylic Maze$47.50
This is a sturdy versatile foraging toy that is great for the most breeds of birds.
You can also use Mini Feather Weights as foraging foot toys inside the maze.
The maze itself is a sealed piece of acrylic and cannot be opened, it is tough and will stand up to the big beaks! The Large Maze measures 15cm in diameter and 3cm thick, it screws onto the side of the cage with the nut and bolt set, as well as 2 washers which fits all cage/aviary bars. The small is available in my store also.
The Hanging Tilt-a-Wheel is a new design made by Caitec. Or should I say, a ‘re-invented’ design after the Cage-Mounted version was too difficult for most beaks. This ‘saucer’ is see through and has 2 openings in the top that your clever parrot can access their food from. Fill it with dry food, treats and foraging substrate (eg bird safe kitty litter) and watch as your bird spins, pushes and tilts the wheel to get to the reward.
The Tilt-a-Wheel measures 21cm wide and a total of 27cm tall, including the quick link that it hangs from. There is a short length of natural, sisal rope under the toy too.
Chicken Foraging Ball$10.00
Awesome new foraging toy, now available for Chickens!
Pull the 2 halves apart, dunk it in your chickens’ favourite dry food treats/food, close the ball then pop it on the grass for them to kick, peck and scratch at. Food will fall out the small openings at each end as your bird manipulates the toy.
